Safety checklist. Updated September 2026
The 10-point Moon.com safety checklist
Moon gives you up to 1000x leverage on markets that never close, and a play-money mode to learn on before any of it is real. Run through these ten points once and your first deposit will be boring in the best way. Most of them take a minute; the sign-up link is at the top and the bottom of the page when you are ready.
Updated September 4, 2026. Facts from moon.com, its terms and help centre. Affiliate disclosure.
1. Confirm you are on the real moon.com
Everything else on this list is pointless if you type your details into a lookalike. Before you register, look at the address bar: it should read moon.com and nothing longer. Reach the site through our referral link or a bookmark you made yourself, never through a link that arrived by direct message. Our scam check shows what the imitations look like.
2. Use a unique password, and check for two-factor authentication
Registration is email and password. Make the password one you have never used anywhere else, because credential leaks from other sites are how most betting accounts get taken over. Once you are in, open the account or security settings and look for a two-factor authentication option. We have not verified from Moon’s public pages whether it is offered, so check for it, and switch it on if it is there.
3. Have your KYC documents ready
Moon’s help centre is explicit: you verify your identity before your first deposit, not after. That means a government ID photographed front and back, and a proof of address. Take the photos in good light with all four corners visible and upload them at registration. Do it up front and verification is a step, not a wall you hit later with money waiting.
4. Read the fee article before you bet
Moon publishes its fees in its own help centre, which is more than many offshore sites do, so use it. There are four charges: 1% of your stake when you open, a holding fee assessed every 8 hours at a rate that changes, a performance fee of at least 10% of realized profit, and a liquidity or spread adjustment when the bet closes. The spread size is not published. Our fees and payouts page walks through a worked example.
5. Start in play-money mode
The homepage offers a practice balance. Use it for longer than feels necessary. Place a bet Up, a bet Down, one at 5x and one at 500x, and watch how the position behaves as the price ticks. You will learn more in ten minutes of play money than in an hour of reading, and you will learn it for free.
6. Size your first positions small
Deposit an amount you would not mind losing entirely, then bet a fraction of it. Start at the low end of the leverage dial. At 1000x, a move of roughly 0.1% against you ends the bet before spread and fees, which is a normal minute in Bitcoin. Leverage is the setting that decides whether a bad guess costs you a little or everything, so treat the top of the dial as a tool for later.
7. Plan around the 8-hour holding fee
The holding fee runs as long as a wager stays open, assessed every 8 hours. Held over a weekend, a position pays it six times before Monday. Before you open a bet, decide whether it is a short one you will close today or a longer one where the holding cost is part of the plan. Do not discover the fee by accident.
8. Understand what a withdrawal involves
Withdrawals are paid in crypto, only after your identity is verified, and only after anti-money-laundering checks. Moon sets minimum and maximum limits and passes on the network fee. It does not publish how long processing takes. The sensible move is to make one small withdrawal early, before you have a large balance riding on it, so you know the process and the timing from your own experience rather than ours.
9. Know where the responsible-gambling tools are
Moon’s terms describe a Take a Break option lasting from one day to three months and a self-exclusion of at least six months or permanent. There is no separate responsible-gambling page on moon.com, so those tools live in the terms and, presumably, in the account settings. Find them on day one. A tool you can locate in thirty seconds is worth far more than one you have to search for on a bad night. Our own responsible-gambling page lists outside help lines.
10. Never share a seed phrase, and ignore the DMs
Moon is a website with an account. It does not need your wallet seed phrase for any reason, and no legitimate support agent will ask for it. Messages offering a “verification bonus”, an airdrop or help with a stuck withdrawal are the standard shape of a scam around any new crypto product. The official X account is @getonmoon; if an announcement is not there, treat it as fake.
Done? Then sign up
That is the whole list. Confirm the domain, lock the account, verify early, read the fees, practice, size small, respect the holding fee, test a withdrawal, know your tools, trust no DMs. Take the referral link below to land on the real moon.com, or read the step-by-step sign-up page first.
